Last Monday, there was a march to the Leon County Courthouse organized by several campus leaders and state politicians at Florida A&M University. Gathering around the Eternal Flame on a rather chilly morning, students surprisingly woke up and got out to support early voting and the right to vote. We were provided with breakfast starters and were swayed by the sounds of DJ Loosekid as we waited for the march to commence.
President Robinson, SGA president Marissa West, SGA vice-president Michael Jefferson and other campus figures were there encouraging the crowd to exercise their right to vote. It was encouraging to hear stories about past experiences with voting and how things weren't always so easy in the plight to do so. It seems so unethical that someone could be denied the right to vote based on things uncontrollable such as race.
It was pushed upon the audience that voting was important this year and early voting was even more important. If we vote early, we will be able to make an impacting difference by getting other voters to the polls the day of elections. It was a beautiful thing to see unity for a cause important to some and now granted to all, the right to vote.
